The 2027 Subaru Getaway: A High-Voltage Family Adventure

Subaru has built its legacy on the image of the mud-splattered weekend warrior, but its transition into the electric era started with a whisper rather than a roar. While the Solterra introduced the brand to EV fans, it struggled to capture the rugged, high-performance spirit that Subaru loyalists demand. That changed with the arrival of the Trailseeker, a more capable off-roader that felt like a true electric successor to the Outback.

The collaboration between Subaru and Toyota has reached a new peak with the 2027 Subaru Getaway, a three-row electric SUV that proves siblings can have very different personalities. While it shares its structural “bones” and E-SGP platform with the upcoming Toyota Highlander EV, Subaru has “hot-rodded” the powertrain to ensure its version stands out in the passing lane.

Power & Performance

Subaru didn’t just borrow the tech; they dialed it up. While the Toyota Highlander EV offers a respectable 338 horsepower, the Getaway pushes its dual-motor setup to a massive 420 horsepower. This makes it the most powerful production vehicle in Subaru’s history, capable of hitting 0–60 mph in under 5 seconds—outrunning many sports cars while carrying up to seven people.

The Getaway sets a high bar for storage, outclassing several major competitors in its segment. With the third-row seats folded flat, the vehicle offers a substantial 1,291 liters (45.6 cubic feet) of cargo volume—a capacity that notably exceeds that of the Kia EV9.

Even when configured for maximum passenger capacity, the Getaway remains highly functional. With all seats in the upright position, it provides 450 liters (15.9 cubic feet) of rear storage space. This versatility ensures the electric SUV is equally capable of managing routine errands or transporting heavy equipment for weekend excursions.

For even more range, there is a 900V version equipped with a 95 kWh "Shield Golden Brick" battery. This model can travel up to 816 km on a full charge (CLTC). When using a V4 ultra-fast charger, it can add 2 km of driving distance every single second. Remarkably, it can charge from 10% to 97% in just 8 minutes and 42 seconds—beating the latest high-speed charging benchmarks set by BYD by 18 seconds. Waiting for a battery to fill up is officially becoming a thing of the past.

The Lynk & Co 10 is expected to be priced between RMB 200,000 and RMB 230,000. At current April 2026 exchange rates, that is roughly €25,000 to €28,700, positioning these sedans as aggressive direct competitors to the Xiaomi SU7. With record-breaking track times and world-leading charging speeds, these two new EVs are ready to challenge both tech giants and traditional luxury automakers alike.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra has received a substantial power-up in its charging capabilities. While earlier models were capped at 100 kW, the latest version now supports DC fast-charging speeds of up to 150 kW.

The Subaru Getaway remains true to the brand's rugged DNA, proving that an electric powertrain doesn't mean sacrificing capability. Equipped with standard all-wheel drive and a commanding 211 mm of ground clearance, it is purpose-built to navigate rocky terrain and heavy snowfall with ease.

To further enhance its off-road credentials, the integrated "X-Mode" system optimizes traction on slick or uneven surfaces, ensuring maximum grip when conditions deteriorate. Additionally, for those seeking adventure with extra gear, the Getaway offers a robust towing capacity of 1,588 kg, making it a versatile choice for hauling trailers or outdoor equipment.
