Volkswagen presents the ID. Polo, reveals performance, range, and cost

Today Volkswagen has entirely taken the covers off the ID. Polo. The car will be available to pre-order from “the end of April” so either today or tomorrow. The car starts at €24,995 in Germany in the entry-level Trend trim. VW bills this as “excellent value for money” in its press release. You will of course be the judge of that.

The automobile comes with four drivetrains and two batteries. The 85kW (116PS) and 99kW (135PS) drivetrains use a 37kWh net capacity LFP battery with support for 90kW DC fast charging. The 155kW (211PS) drivetrain uses a 52kWh net NMC battery with support for 105kW DC fast charging. This will also be on the ID. Polo GTI, which will develop 166kW (226PS). Next year, that one will be released.

VW forecasts a range of up to 329 km from the smaller battery and up to 454 km from the bigger one, using the WLTP cycle. Top speed is 160 km/h on all versions. The ID. Polo is built using “the current evolutionary stage of the modular electric drive platform” MEB+ and has front-wheel drive. Thanks to this platform, the ID. Polo can deliver 441 l of trunk / boot space, even though it’s just 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide, and 1,530 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,600 mm.

Even the entry-level Trend model has a 13-inch infotainment screen and a 10-inch “Digital Cockpit” in front of the driver. Adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera system, Park Distance Control, Front Cross Traffic Assist, an anti-dazzle interior mirror, and electrically folding exterior mirrors are all features of the Life trim, which is an upgrade. From this level up, wireless smartphone chargers are also included, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The top trim is dubbed Style and comes with LED matrix headlights, 3D light tail clusters, illuminated VW insignia at the front and back, sport comfort seats (whatever that means), “high-quality materials” inside, steering wheel and seat heating, and two-zone climate control.

Upgrades to the top-tier Style trim level include LED matrix headlights, 3D light tail clusters, front and rear lighted Volkswagen insignia, sport comfort seats (whatever that means), “high-quality materials” interior, heated steering wheel and seats, and two-zone climate control, among other things.
