Today, GM revealed that it will install Google’s Gemini AI chatbot in US Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles “with Google built-in” (i.e., running Android Automotive) starting with model year 2022. According to GM, this upgrade is “one of the largest deployments of Gemini in the industry” and can be applied to almost four million vehicles.

As you’d anticipate, when you receive Gemini you can talk to it in a natural way, without needing to recall special commands or to repeat any context. “You can debate big ideas, explore random curiosities, and even send texts translated in different languages – all while keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road”.

The upgrade that delivers Gemini to the aforementioned vehicles will unfortunately take several months to arrive on all of them. To utilize Gemini, if you own one of these vehicles, you need to make sure you’re linked to OnStar, signed into the Google Play Store, utilizing US English as your assistant language, and opt into Gemini.

The update will expand to new GM markets and will support more languages “over time”, the company states in its official press statement.
